Kingston Area Birds 1 June 2024 – 7 June 2024
Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) maintain records in a 50km radius of MacDonald Park, Kingston. Birders using eBird are encouraged to share their sightings with ‘Kingston FN’. Alternatively, please email records directly to me – contact details below. Please note that some sightings may require review and remain unconfirmed unless stated otherwise. Species in bold type require completion of a rare bird report available on the KFN website or directly from me. If indicated, an OBRC report may be required instead (http://www.ofo.ca/site/Obrcreport). Some iPhone users report that bold type may be replaced by asterisks.
Overview: A quiet week for rarities this week, but it doesn’t mean they aren’t out there. With the BioBlitz coming up at the end of this coming week we will keep our fingers crossed.
Parish Notes: Sorry for the delay in getting this out, I participated in the Dawn Chorus Walk yesterday and had a birthday party to attend right afterwards.

LEAST BITTERN – 1 was seen on Westport Road on June 4; 1 was seen on Wolfe Island on June 6; 1 was seen at Little Cataraqui CA on June 7
MISSISSIPPI KITE – 1 bird was seen at Prince Edward Point NWA (PEC) on June 1
RED-HEADED WOODPECKER – 1 bird was seen on Opinicon Road on June 1
YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER – 1 bird was seen at Tree Frog Farm on June 6
CAROLINA WREN – 1 bird was seen on Amherst Island (L&A) on June 2; 1 was seen near Bayview Drive (L&A) on May 2
LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH – 1 bird was seen on Opinicon Road on June 2, 1 on June 3
PRAIRIE WARBLER – 1 bird was seen on Fishing Lake Road on June 4
BAY-BREASTED WARBLER – 1 bird was seen at Prince Edward Point NWA (PEC) on June 1; 1 was seen on Long Point Road (PEC) on June 1
BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER – 1 bird was seen at Prince Edward Point NWA (PEC) on June 1; 5 were seen on Long Point Road (PEC) on June 1; 1 was seen on Main Duck Island (PEC) on June 4
PINE SISKIN – 1 bird was seen at 104 Hardwood Lane on June 5
ORCHARD ORIOLE – 2 birds were seen at Lemoine Point on June 1, 1 on June 3, 1 on June 7; 2 were seen on Amherst Island (L&A) on June 2, 2 on June 3, 2 on June 7; 1 was seen on Battersea Road Near Mount Chesney on June 2; 1 was seen on Simcoe Island on June 3; 2 were seen on Wolfe Island on June 6;
In order to minimise disturbance to wildlife and property in the recording area, Kingston Field Naturalists has adopted the KFN Sensitive Sightings Policy. Please note that you must be a card-carrying member of Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN), or be accompanied by a member, to access both the Martin Edwards Reserve and Amherstview Sewage Lagoons. Permits are being checked on a regular basis at Amherstview and those without are being evicted. KFN members wishing to enter the Invista property must enter through the west gate and show their membership card to security.
