Kingston Area Birds 14 September 2024 – 20 September 2024
Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) maintain records in a 50km radius of MacDonald Park, Kingston. Birders using eBird are encouraged to share their sightings with ‘Kingston FN’. Alternatively, please email records directly to me – contact details below. Please note that some sightings may require review and remain unconfirmed unless stated otherwise. Species in bold type require completion of a rare bird report available on the KFN website or directly from me. If indicated, an OBRC report may be required instead (http://www.ofo.ca/site/Obrcreport). Some iPhone users report that bold type may be replaced by asterisks.
Overview: There were a couple of nice sightings to highlight the week, with the Glossy Ibis being a nice surprise. The Long-billed Dowitcher was kind enough to stay around for the week as well.
Parish Notes: Migration is continuing, with a good movement of shorebirds and warblers being reported. Keep your eyes open for the birds leaving the area as well as some early migrants coming in.

SNOW GOOSE – 2 birds were seen at Brewers Mills on Sept. 16
WHITE-WINGED SCOTER – 1 bird was seen on Amherst Island-Martin Edwards Reserve (L&A) on Sept. 19
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER – 1 bird was continuing at Wilton Creek (L&A), being seen from Sept. 14 to Sept 19. There were two reported in the same area on Sept. 17
GLOSSY IBIS – 1 bird was seen on Opinicon Road on Sept. 16, 1 on Snake Island on Sept. 20
COMMON NIGHTHAWK – 5 birds were seen at Prince Edward Point NWA (PEC) on Sept. 16
WILLOW FLYCATCHER – 1 bird was seen on Parrott’s Bay Lane (L&A) on Sept. 18
TUFTED TITMOUSE – 1 bird was seen at Glen Lawrence Woods on Sept. 14; 4 birds were seen at a private residence on Montreal Street on Sept. 18
SEDGE WREN – 1 bird was seen on Amherst Island-Martin Edwards Reserve (L&A) on Sept. 19
VEERY – 2 birds were seen at Prince Edward Point NWA (PEC) on Sept. 15
BOBOLINK – 1 bird was reported from Prince Edward Point NWA (PEC) on Sept. 14, 1 on Sept. 17
RUSTY BLACKBIRD – 4 birds were seen on Blue Mountain Trail (L&G) on Sept. 18
NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH – 1 bird was reported from Prince Edward Point NWA (PEC) on Sept. 14
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER – 1 bird was seen at 1726 Burbrook Road on Sept. 20
YELLOW WARBLER – 1 bird was seen at Prince Edward Point NWA (PEC) on Sept. 14; 1 was seen at the Invista Property on Sept. 18; 1 bird was seen on Amherst Island-Martin Edwards Reserve (L&A) on Sept. 19
In order to minimise disturbance to wildlife and property in the recording area, Kingston Field Naturalists has adopted the KFN Sensitive Sightings Policy. Please note that you must be a card-carrying member of Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN), or be accompanied by a member, to access both the Martin Edwards Reserve and Amherstview Sewage Lagoons. Permits are being checked on a regular basis at Amherstview and those without are being evicted. KFN members wishing to enter the Invista property must enter through the west gate and show their membership card to security.
